Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food —Hippocrates. Introducing wellness brand, Golde.

In 2019, Trinity Mouzon Wofford was the youngest Black woman to launch her groundbreaking wellness and beauty brand in Sephora. Wellness and superfoods weren’t new things when Golde hit the market. So, how exactly was Trinity’s brand able to disrupt the industry the way it did?

Simple. Trinity created Golde to make wellness more accessible to everyone. It was that commitment toward inclusivity as well as sustainability and innovation that sets the brand apart. From a single product mixed from the founders’ 1-bedroom apartment, it’s now a popular and influential brand in the wellness space.

Read on to discover the influences behind Trinity’s superfood self-care line, her bestselling health boosters and skincare staples, where you can purchase these delightful body-and-soul-healing products, and lots more.

The origin of Golde

In an interview with ELLE.com, Trinity revealed that her mother majorly influenced her wellness career path. According to the co-founder and CEO, her mother dealt with severe rheumatoid arthritis for as long as she can recall. Eventually, she sought the opinion of a holistically-inclined doctor and adopted the alternative therapies he prescribed.

After some time, her mother began to experience significant improvements. However, when Trinity was pre-med in college, her mom was no longer able to afford to see this doctor. This was what opened her eyes to the challenge of accessibility in the world of healing and wellness. It also inspired the path she eventually took in her wellness career.

Trinity’s own experience with digestive issues further influenced the creation of Golde. She realized that many of the products she was using to tackle her issues contained harmful ingredients. Hence, she wanted to create a line of simple, clean, and effective wellness products that would help people feel their best. So, in 2017, Trinity teamed up with her partner and high school sweetheart, Issey Kobori, to create Golde.

Trinity’s background in holistic nutrition and her interest in herbal medicine and natural remedies informed her approach to creating Golde. Combined with Issey’s experience with running a small business through his family background, Golde had a fundamentally strong start. The brand’s very first and only product was a latte blend made with turmeric. Turmeric was a superfood her mother used to curb her inflammation.

Golde began with website sales then pushed their product in local retail shops and cafes in Brooklyn, New York. The turmeric blend soon became a hit, and Trinity was then able to expand Golde’s product line.

In addition, Golde quickly gained a following on social media. Major publications like Vogue, Forbes, and Harper’s Bazaar featured the brand. Many also recognized Trinity and Issey’s entrepreneurial success. Forbes named the co-founders in its 30 Under 30 list in 2020.

Golde’s philosophy

Before Golde, the wellness market was an expensive luxury that only a few could afford. Hence, Trinity created Golde to fill this gap. The brand’s mission is to make the world of wellness and superfoods “easy, accessible, and fun for all.”

Golde products work to promote self-care and wellness. The brand’s founders define self-care as “feeling like your best self”. Hence, they create effortless, feel-good products that help users by focusing on nutrition and overall physical well-being. They achieve this with products that fit seamlessly into users’ lifestyles.

One of the key principles of Golde is the use of natural ingredients. The brand is committed to using only the highest quality, plant-based ingredients in its products. All of its formulations are also free from harsh chemicals, artificial preservatives, and synthetic fragrances.

Another important aspect of the Golde ethos is sustainability. The brand is committed to reducing its environmental impact by using recyclable packaging and minimizing waste throughout its supply chain. Golde also partners with sustainable and ethical suppliers to source its ingredients and works to support small-scale farmers and producers.

Finally, Golde is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity in the wellness industry. The brand formulates its products to be inclusive and accessible to people of all skin types and backgrounds.

Trinity expressed that as a Black woman, of course, her products are made for Black women. But, she also created Golde products for everyone else on the planet. Because while her Black-owned brand is an extension of her Black experience, everyone deserves a super dose of wellness.
